I know Dove Cameron always looks like she stepped out of some sort of fairytale, but her 2024 Met Gala look is in a league all its own. As soon as she appeared on the pale green carpet in her deconstructed Diesel floral gown and rose-colored makeup, all I could see was princess.
Luckily, makeup artist Kale Teter was kind enough to give Byrdie a full breakdown on her glam, which he crafted alongside hairstylist Jacob Rozenberg and nail artist Mel Shengaris (who created a tiny sculptural garden atop the singer's nail beds).

The Inspiration
Like so many other looks over the course of the evening, Cameron's makeup was inspired by her gown (this is ultimately a fashion event, after all).
"The dress is this gorgeously delicate shattered rose fabric, and we wanted the hair and makeup to compliment this ethereal forest nymph vibe," Teter tells Byrdie. "As always, I kept her skin very glowy and radiant. I like her to look polished but not too heavy, and then aside from beautiful skin, the lip was really the focus. We wanted them to look like velvety rose petals."
How to Get the Look
Let's start at the beginning, shall we? Cameron's skin is always something to behold, and Teter had a whole array of products in his kit to get it looking its very best.
"First I used some new skincare products from Danucera, a brand I’ve had in my kit for a while now. They have a new Mega Serum ($165) that feels so silky and instantly hydrates. Then I used their Cream Supreme ($195) and Iconic Eye Cream ($145)," he shares. "For foundation we used Beautyblender Bounce Liquid Whip Long Wear Foundation ($29) placed mostly where we wanted more coverage, such as the center of the face, and then blended Bounce 12-Hour Always On Radiant Skin Tint ($29) over that, so you get a flawless finish where you need it and then let some skin show through on the rest of the face."
When it comes to crafting natural-looking foundation, Teter's best tip is to work in multiple thin layers whenever possible. Also, you shouldn't be afraid of freckles or the skin's other "little nuances."
"Letting some of that show through in different areas helps everything look radiant and natural instead of masking the whole face," he says. "I also like to just powder the center of the face a lot of the time and let some sheen stay in the skin. Beautyblender's Bounce Soft Focus Gemstone Setting Powder ($32) is great because it also is a bit luminous. You still keep that fresh skin-like texture."
Other products that came in handy were Beautyblender's Bounce Magic Fit Creamy Bronzer and Highlighter Duo ($32) in the shade "Pearl/Buff," which the artist used to underpaint the complexion.
"You blend it into the skin anywhere you want some depth and then if you use foundation sparingly on top, it shows through as a contour in such a soft, elegant way," he shares.
Another standout? Bounce Liquid Whip Cream Blush ($22). He used two shades—Cheeky Pink and Flirty Rose—to add color to both the cheeks and eyes, keeping the entire look "very rosy and tonal."
Before Cameron jumped out of her car and onto the steps of the Met, Teter gave everything one more little blend. "I like everything very seamless, so I’ll usually take a Beautyblender Original Makeup Sponge ($20) and just gently bounce it over all the areas where different colors meet to soften everything," he says, noting that while this is almost always his last step, it was especially important tonight. "And last, I gave her a spritz of Boost 4-in-1 Firming Peptide 18-Hour Setting Spray ($33) to make sure nothing budged."
