With New York Fashion Week in full swing, the city is pulsing with more energy and excitement than usual. Every September, we look forward to seeing the spring and summer collections hit the runway. But, of course, our attention is mainly fixated on the accompanying beauty looks. The hair and makeup moments that emerge during fashion week help shape the trends we'll be seeing for months to come—and this season, there is plenty of inspiration to sift through. Ahead, we've rounded up the biggest spring/summer 2024 beauty trends. We'll be updating this list as New York Fashion Week continues.

Sunset Lips

The sunset aura lips at Palomo Spain immediately caught our attention. The black liner and contrasting metallic tones on the lip are the perfect pairing.

Ulla Johnson's models showcased a subtler take on sunset lips, "The two-tone lip look was inspired by a sunset: the top lip was a terracotta sandy shade while the bottom lip was a peachy, coral hue," lead MUA Romy Soleimani says. On the upper lip, she used the Sisley Paris Phyto-Lèvres Perfect Lipliner ($66) in Beige Naturel and Phyto-Rouge Lipstick in Beige Tahiti. On the lower lip, she applied the Phyto-Lèvres Perfect Lipliner in Sweet Coral, followed by the Phyto-Rouge Lipstick in Orange Ibiza.

Similarly, the Sami Miro Vintage show featured sleek, gelled styles. Some of the hero products included Don’t Shrink Elongating Curl Gel ($11), Curl La La Defining Curl Custard ($11), and Ice Curls Glossy Curling Gels ($11).

Instead of opting for washes of color on the eye, this season was all about dramatic, shimmery eyeshadow. For the Rachel Comey show, lead MUA Romy Soleimani created a crescent moon shape design across each model's eyelid using the Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Luxe Eyeshadow Quad ($58) in Indigo Night.

At The Blonds, the models sported elongated glitter eyeshadow. For this specific look, key makeup artist Baltasar Gonzalez Pinel used M.A.C. Cosmetics' Pink Pearl Pigment ($25) on the eyes and Glitter ($23) in Transparent Pink.

Mermaid Waves

The Little Mermaid sparked a mermaid-core beauty movement, so it's no surprise wet and wavy hair is everywhere. The Anna Sui show featured a variety of underwater-inspired styles, from cascading waves to a finger wave bob. All of the looks were created using R + Co products, like the De Luxe Reparative Shampoo ($59), Conditioner ($59), and Optical Illusion Smoothing Oil ($66).

Celebrity hair artist Jimmy Paul described the key hair look for the Jason Wu show as "shipwrecked waves." He brought the fluid hairstyle to life using TRESemmé's Mega Control Hair Gel ($8), Keratin Smooth Shine Serum ($9), Extra Hold Mousse ($8), and Ultra Fine Hairspray ($8).

Revenge Lips

While nude lips tend to be a routine part of runway beauty looks, "revenge lips" (aka a statement lip) were front and center at the Alice + Olivia show. Too Faced's Elyse Reneau gave some of the models a glossy, bright red lip. She achieved the look using Lady Bold Cream Lipstick ($29) and Lady Bold Waterproof Longwear Lip Liner ($23)—both in shade Lady Bold.

Downtown Updos

Effortless, mid-low buns have proven to be a popular hairdo this season. At Khaite, celebrity hair artist Guido Palau created slightly messy buns with a downtown feel using the TRESemmé Extra Hold Mousse ($8), Keratin Smooth Shine Serum ($9), and Ultra Fine Hairspray ($8). "This collection is very chic, so I wanted to create a style that complimented the vibe of the clothes with a natural downtown feel," Palau says. "The TRESemmé products allow the look to feel natural while still creating the toughness we were going for, rather than a soft, romantic style."

Similarly, at Altuzarra, Jawara went for an "undone" bun look. Before styling, he used the Nutrafol Hair Serum ($69) on each of the models to ensure their scalps were nourished. Then, he used Fekkai Root Lift Volume Spray ($28) and Dry Texturizing Spray ($27) to prep the hair. On models with textured hair, he used the brand's shea butter line—specifically, the Curl Defining Gel Crème ($26).

Ethereal Eyes

Romantic angelic makeup took center stage—with frosted, shimmer lids being a focal point. At the L'agence presentation, some models wore ethereal eye looks created with Stila Cosmetics. For the eyeshadow, celebrity makeup artist and Stila Cosmetics global head of artistry Charlie Riddle used the Matte' N Metal Eye Shadow Palette ($49) for a matte and shimmer base, the Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($25) in Perlina, and Heaven's Dew All Over Glimmer ($30) in Silverlake.

Christian Siriano's beauty direction also leaned into the fantasy vibes, featuring soft glitter lids. The Charlotte Tilbury Pro-Artistry team designed the look for the show, wanting to create a balletcore beauty moment. On the models' eyes, the MUAs used the Luxury Eyeshadow Palette ($55) in Uptown Girl, Hollywood Exagger-Eyes Liner Duo ($32), and Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Mascara ($29).

Fantasy Hair

The hairstyles at Bronx and Banco felt incredibly whimsical. At the show, models wore undone, tousled bubble braids accessorized with gold clips and rings.

At the Siriano show, ribbon-adorned braids (created by Unilever stylist and celebrity hair artist Lacy Redway) were one of the key hairstyles. She says she used the Tresemmé Ultra Fine Hairspray ($7) along with bobby pins to keep the ribbons in place. "I love 'fantasy hair' because it takes you out of your comfort zone," Redway explains. "I also love playing with hair accessories because it's a great way to elevate your look."

Dark Ballerina

Holly Rhue

Backstage at Alice + Olivia, Too Faced's Elyse Reneau is taking balletcore to the dark side with siren eyes, revenge lips, and ethereal eyeshadow (a look the brand is fittingly calling "Modern Swan"). We're loving the edgy, dark ballerina vibes that bring the perfect balance of goth and ballet.

Pastry Buns

So far, there's certainly a cohesive theme this season, and that's ballet beauty. At Alice + Olivia, Living Proof is creating bridal, pearl-encrusted updos, mod ponytails, and this fabulously fluffy ballet bun that can only be likened to a croissant.
