Blame it on main character syndrome, but there's something irresistible about dressing like you're in a rom-com. You know, looking like you're a young working journalist that has seemingly no assignments from their editor, and can just wander around from park bench to coffee shop—always hoping the love of your life will pick up a pen you dropped from your overstuffed messenger bag before looking into your eyes and realizing you're the one. It's an appeal that knows no boundaries, extending from simply romanticizing our everyday commute to sitting in the front row of Paris Fashion Week. Just ask Kiernan Shipka.
On February 29, the Mad Men and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star was invited to sit front row at Chloé's Fall/Winter 24 show alongside the likes of Sienna Miller and Georgia May Jagger. The new collection was ripe with references to airy preppy-bohemian style—not unlike the styles worn in popular rom-coms like Sex and the City, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and Legally Blonde. However, if we had to guess, Shipka had a very specific rom-com in mind she was channeling that day: When Harry Met Sally.
While posing for pictures and watching the latest designs by the brand's new creative director, Chemena Kamali, walk down the runway, Kiernan channeled the film's lead actor, Meg Ryan, with her quintessential rom-com curls.
Done by her hairstylist, Mashal Afzalzada, Shipka's hair was voluminously curly all the way around, just like Ryan's hair in the iconic film. Parted down the middle, the hair closest to the roots was styled rather straight. Then, no more than an inch or two past her scalp, the hair got curly—real curly.
Appearing bouncy and light, each of the curls was loose, yet undeniably curlier than a wave—it was very perm-y, but in a good way. Afzalzada left out a few stylish flyaways and frizzy strands to send the rom-comcore to the next level, because hair can't be absolutely perfect when you're running around town searching for love.
Shipka's makeup was just as gorgeous. The actor's skin had a natural-matte finish—another rom-com classic—that laid the perfect base for her mauvy pink lips and smoky eyes to pop. Her eyes had an ashy gray color swept across her eyelids, making its way under her lower lash line as well. Then, it was finished off with dark, wispy lashes.
