There’s no feeling like jetting off on vacation. It lifts my spirits, feeds my soul, and shakes up my day-to-day in a way that helps keep peace in my mind and body. Travel works as a reminder to stay present. We wanted to speak to that feeling of fulfillment—the one that comes specifically through a mix of relaxation, exploration, and education—in this issue. The Travel Issue centers around two distinct categories: what to pack and what to know. In that, we discuss vacation style, makeup inspiration, and airport crushes (we’ve all had them), as well as dissect themes around sober travel, how to feel confident in your passport photo (has anyone ever liked theirs? I found this guide exceedingly helpful while preparing to renew mine…), and whether or not hotels are serving the hair needs of their Black patrons. Spoiler: They can do better.
We shot our beautiful cover star, Nicola Peltz Beckham, on a set inspired by the iconic TWA Hotel. And while Peltz Beckham loves to travel and does so a lot for her job and to be with family, she spoke to us about her favorite activity—putting on PJs and hosting a low-key hang with her best friends. So, among all the planning and dressing up that comes with a long-anticipated vacation, it’s vital to us (Team Byrdie) and our divine cover star, to want to stay comfortable while we do it. That’s why we partnered with Victoria’s Secret PINK on this issue, as there’s nothing cozier than a good loungewear set. Agreed?
Without further ado, please enjoy The Travel Issue. We worked so hard on it, and I hope you’ll think of us when you’re headed somewhere breathtaking on your next flight.
