The One Thing

Our series, The One Thing, is a Sparknotes version of the products, rituals, and moments your favorite celebrities and influencers swear by—their go-tos, must-haves, and can’t-live-withouts. So go ahead—take a brief, intimate peek into the lives of your favorites through the things (and people, and moments) they hold dear.

Monet McMichael is a bona fide superstar on all her social platforms, with over three million followers on her TikTok and one million followers on her Instagram. The 24-year-old It girl has risen to prominence over the last few years, becoming known for her relatable fashion and beauty content (her GRWM videos are fan favorites) and refreshing, playful personality.

McMichael's significant success as a creator has naturally led to noteworthy moments with industry power players—she walked in L'Oréal's Paris Fashion Week show in October 2023 and launched a limited-edition sunglasses collection with Dezi in early 2024. This month, McMichael is celebrating the release of her latest endeavor, a custom fragrance with viral fragrance brand Snif. Her signature perfume, Rose Era, offers a modern take on a rose scent and features notes of rose, strawberry, and ambrette seeds.

"I met Phil Riportella, the co-founder of Snif, at a dinner last summer, but I was introduced to the brand a few months before through the Crumb Couture Fragrance," McMichael shares. "I fell in love with that scent, so it's so exciting that this partnership came to life. Creating Rose Era has been such an educational experience. I'm in love with what we created."

Ahead, McMichael opens up about bringing Rose Era to life, the beauty tips she swears by, and how she spends her time offline.

The One Thing That Inspired Her Scent

"I knew from the jump I wanted to create a feminine, floral scent. I did a lot of research on my favorite fragrances, and some of the common notes between them were rose and jasmine. We worked with top-tier perfumers who made their renditions of the scent, and we went through multiple rounds to land on the final version. It smells like a floral dream. It's so crazy to smell it now and see how it has evolved from a thought in my head."

The One Thing She Learned About Fragrance

"I learned a lot about fragrance layering and how a scent can smell different on every person. My best friends and mom were around throughout this process, and I sprayed it on all of them. It evolved and aged differently for each person throughout the day, which is mind-blowing. I also learned how many different versions of rose fragrance there are."

The One Outfit Her Scent Reminds Her Of

"I wear this scent all the time, but I definitely envision wearing a super fun and bright daytime outfit. My look would have florals and fluff, like a ruffle skirt. I can see myself wearing pink, red, or orange. I've been tapping into more colorful outfits lately."

The One Summer Beauty Essential She Can't Live Without

"Sunscreen, for sure. Applying sunscreen helps your body glow and protect your skin from the sun."

The One Beauty Tip She's Learned From Her Mom

"She's taught me about the Kiss Individual Lashes. They're her secret weapon, and she's a pro at doing them. I love lashes so much—especially the strip lashes from Lilly Lash—and used to wear extensions, but my mom makes wearing individual lashes look easy."

The One Beauty Trick She's Taught Her Mom

"I taught my mom about concealer this year. I told her, 'You have to go in with the concealer, girl.' Applying concealer is one of my favorite steps, and she's always stuck to only foundation and a little bronzer. It's so fun to get her to try new things."

The One Thing That Helped Her Gain Confidence

"Sometimes, I like to look back at videos from when I first started because my confidence has evolved. I give myself credit because I was so scared and nervous about people seeing my content. You get stuck in that fear of people seeing you for you. But once I conquered that feeling, that's where all my confidence came from. It helps to imagine your videos being in the hands of someone who is your biggest fan and to only give your energy to positivity. It's easier said than done sometimes. Sometimes, you don't want to be perceived or seen, but you must continue showing up for yourself."

The One Thing She Often Reflects On

"My journey has been so crazy. Somedays, it hits harder than others. I still think I'm the same person, except my situation is different. I'm navigating all the normal things involved with adulthood, just with the internet involved. I'm so proud of how my career has evolved. I would've never imagined being where I am today. My supporters are the sweetest people, and I'd be friends with all of them. I can't believe I inspire people. It makes me emotional to think about where I am today compared to where I started."

The One Thing She Loves to Do When She's Offline

"I've been working on having more balance because being online consumed my time for about three years. However, without that consistency, I wouldn't be where I am today. Now that I'm here, I love clocking out and going on walks. I enjoy playing Fortnite and other video games with my siblings. I love to connect with my family and friends via FaceTime calls. I'm also a new plant mom."

The One Thing She's Looking Forward to This Summer

"I want to go to the Hamptons since I've never been. Everyone goes there every summer, so I want to see what the tea is. I also want to throw rooftop parties at my house."

The One Thing She Wants to Do in Her Career

"Last year, I did a lot of traveling and was trying to figure myself out. Now that I've settled down, I'm thinking more about my future and what's next. I want to start a brand—something bigger than me and purposeful. But collaborating with brands like Snif has been so huge. Creating Rose Era has opened my eyes to what's possible."
