The 2024 Super Bowl was basically a who's-who of Hollywood. Of course, Taylor Swift was there alongside her fellow WAGs to cheer on Travis Kelce. Blake Lively was also present, as was Ice Spice, Lana Del Rey, half the Kardashian sisters, and Beyoncé and her family (just to name a few). Our favorite goth princess, Megan Fox, was also in attendance, wearing an updo fit for pop-punk royalty.
"I've named this look the 'Punk Pam Updo' for its rebellious yet glamorous essence and a nod to Pamela Anderson's iconic viral updo," hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos tells Byrdie. Punk Pam is the perfect descriptor, as the look sees all of Fox's newly pink hair piled on top of her head in a messy French twist. There are plenty of loose face-framing pieces to give the updo that classic Pam touch and a single skinny black bow in the back gives the whole thing a punk Marie Antoinette vibe.
"For Megan's look at the Super Bowl, I drew inspiration from glam-punk aesthetics," adds Giannetos. "I wanted to create a bold and edgy style that resonates with the energy of the event. Megan recently underwent a color transformation, and I wanted to showcase it in a way that complemented the punk vibe. The messy '90s updo allowed me to incorporate her new color while leaving face-framing pieces for a more dynamic effect."
To start, Giannetos used Nexxus' Prep & Protect Heat Defense Spray on Fox's hair to protect it from frizz and shield it from humidity for a long-lasting style. Then, he used a round brush to blow-dry her hair for maximum volume and smoothness. "Create loose bends with a 1 1/4-inch curling iron for that punk-inspired texture," instructs Giannetos if you want to create a similar look at home. "Don't be afraid to tousle your hair with your fingers for a relaxed feel. When pulling your hair into an updo, leave some face-framing pieces for that undone effect." He finished the look with a spray of the Nexxus Hairspray XXL Volume to secure the look in place.
"Before Megan headed out the door, I added a distinctive touch by incorporating a black bow into the back of her updo. This not only added an extra element of punk chic but also provided a unique twist to the overall look. Finally, I sealed the style with another round of XXL Hair Spray to ensure it stayed flawless."
