We put Medicube's Age-R Contour Body Shot to the test after receiving a complimentary sample from the brand. Keep reading for our full product review.

My body and I have been on what I'd call a reproductive rollercoaster thanks to fibroids. But unlike the feeling you get at a theme park, the ride hasn't been joyous. Due to hormonal treatments, I've experienced rapid weight gain, subsequently layering my body with stretch marks, cellulite, and loose skin. Instead of beating myself up, I've opted to mindfully care for my body to get back to my healthy weight without rushing the process.

However, I was intrigued when I saw that Hailey Bieber-approved brand Medicube launched a body care product that could help smooth my skin with RF and EMS technology. Unlike in-office procedures (think: Cryo T-Shock, Emsculpt, etc.), you won't get a contouring effect with this tool. Instead, the Age-R Body Shot stimulates the production of collagen and the enhancement of skin elasticity through suction methodologies and high-frequency currents.

Because this is an at-home device, I wasn't expecting miracles. But because the facial device has received such high praise, I couldn't wait to see what this would do for the skin texture I've developed on my stomach due to my weight gain. Ahead, read my review of the  Age-R Contour Body Shot.

Medicube Age-R Contour Body Shot

BEST FOR: Body

USES: To smooth skin and improve elasticity

PRICE: $530

ABOUT THE BRAND: Medicube is a K-beauty brand known for its high-performance, high-tech devices and skincare products.

About My Body: It's gone through a lot of changes

Until a couple of years ago, I'd never thought much about collagen production in the skin beyond my face. However, my fibroid journey has changed my skin drastically. The changes are primarily due to the hormone prescribed for ten months to help stop my daily bleeding, but the side effects included everything from swelling to a 55-pound weight gain. So these days, I have stretch marks everywhere, and the skin on my stomach now has tons of texture and sagging.

How to Use It: There are a few things to keep in mind

Using the Age-R Body Shot involves a few steps. First, you'll want to connect it to the provided adapter and turn it on. From there, you can choose your desired mode (mild or strong). To begin a treatment, ensure your skin is clean and dry. Then, you can start working on your selected areas. Pressing the "shot" button will activate the suction. The brand says to apply one shot at a time to each area and then move on to the next section. After completing three to five rounds of treatment, you should slather on a product that will help soothe your skin and alleviate any marks.

The Results: It takes longer than four weeks to see results

When I opened the device, I immediately loved its compact design because you can take it with you in even the smallest carry-on. After inspecting the tool, I read the instruction manual from top to bottom because there are a lot of directions to take in. If the manual still feels confusing, the brand offers a step-by-step video, which I found very helpful.

Because I was using the device on my tummy, I went with the strong mode and did five sessions, which took about 25 minutes to complete. As for the feel of the device, the small silver rectangle suctions your skin. It doesn't hurt or burn. You just feel a little warmth on the skin and a little pinch. Additionally, the manual notes that you may see some red marks on the skin post-use. This is true, but don't worry, they go away and don't leave any marks behind.

I was diligent about using the device several times a week at the start, but I often forgot to layer this into my routine when life got busy. However, when I did use it, I always followed up my Medicube treatments with an application of topical products like Oui the People All In All Melting Body Balm ($75) and Mutha Body Contour Serum. Together, this combination has started slowly smoothing my skin, so much so that I've bravely worn a Skims string bikini (and even posted the photo on Instagram). This is a massive feat for me these days. I want to love the body I'm in now, so I'm doing my best to practice acceptance.

Overall, I didn't see a massive change in my skin. The website points out that users saw various positive results in self-clinical assessments. However, based on the company's marketing for this tool, it doesn't seem like the clincals involved women with diverse body types. I think I'll see visible results in eight to 12 weeks in conjunction with working out and eating well versus the four weeks the brand states.

The Value: It is worth the money, but you have to be patient

This device isn't going to snatch your waist in a week, and like working out, it takes time to see results. Even longer than four weeks, depending on your body's unique needs. With that said, is it worth it? I think so, as long as you have realistic expectations and use it at least three times a week.

Final Verdict

The Age-R Body Shot certainly has potential if you use it diligently and have realistic expectations of what it can do. In the six weeks I've used it, I've seen a subtle but noticeable difference in the elasticity of the skin on my stomach. I definitely plan to keep using this alongside my workouts and bodycare routine as a tool.
