Iskra Lawrence is one of those people that radiates positivity. The entrepreneur and model's warm, down-to-earth demeanor translates whether you're watching her passionately discuss body positivity on Instagram or casually chit-chatting with her in real life at a cafe in Manhattan. The latter was the case for our conversation earlier this year. Lawrence and I gathered to discuss all the latest happenings in her life—she's one busy woman, to say the least.
Her day-to-day life involves juggling motherhood, modeling for some of the biggest brands, and managing booming businesses (she's the founder of the buzzy brand Saltair). On top of that, as an in-demand voice in fashion and beauty, Lawrence often partners with brands who share her values. Her newest partnership is with Soap & Glory, a brand known for its luxe, affordable bodycare and beauty products. "Being an avid fan of Soap & Glory since I was a young girl in England, it was really special to go behind the scenes to see how much care and attention into their fragrances and products," she says.
Ahead, Lawrence discusses the brand's new "Fresh as Fig" collection, her fashion essentials, and her self-care routine.
The One Thing That Elevates Her Bodycare Routine
"It varies daily, depending on how much time I have. My non-negotiable is that I have to use a scrub at least once a week because I have keratosis pilaris and uneven texture. It's really nice that the Fresh as Fig Body Scrub feels luxurious. It's lightweight but clings to your skin. I'm also a self-tan girl, so oily products don't work for me, but this scrub is great. I also love the body wash—it has a creamy texture and isn't stripping."
The One Thing That Keeps Her Skin Moisturized
"I typically apply the Fresh as Fig Body Lotion in the morning and the Fresh as Fig Body Butter at night. The body butter is so thick and luxurious."
The One Way She Practices Self-Care
"I believe in gratitude journaling. There's something magical about it. You can even do it with your whole family—each of you can write a positive thought, put it in a jar, and return to the notes when you need to. However, having a son makes it easier to find those moments of gratitude now because I can just look at him. I also like to look at my week and find times to practice self-care, whether that means getting a pedicure or doing a one-hour Facetime chat with my best friend. I recently signed up for a membership at this wellness studio in Austin to invest in myself. I'll get a service done, do the leg compression treatment, and relax."
The One Lesson Motherhood Taught Her
"There was a period after I had my son that I completely lost myself because I had to care for this new human. I had him during the pandemic, and I didn't imagine being so isolated. I envisioned being with friends and family and being able to go to "Mommy and Me" classes. None of that was available then, and I felt alone. I neglected myself during that time. My husband and I were super tired. It took a while to prioritize myself and learn that I can't look after others if I'm not together.
The One TikTok Beauty Trend She's Into
"I found the self-tanner contour hack on TikTok. I'm into it. At first, I messed it up. But the second time I tried it, I used the self-tanner drops instead, which allowed me to have more control."
The One Fashion Trend She Wants to Try
"I want to lean more into color and print. I often wear neutrals, but I am inspired by people on Instagram who mix colors and prints. I love the "eclectic grandpa" aesthetic floating around and want to experiment more and get out of my box. Being a mid-size girl, we're often convinced that we must wear the most flattering thing for our bodies. We've frequently been told that being in a larger body isn't good, and we've been told to wear things that make us look slimmer or show our waist off. I want to get out of that mindset and do what I want."
The One Piece She Wears All the Time
"I have a white Good American bodysuit that I wear all the time—it's a staple. It's made from a stretchy scuba knit material. It also washes well and doesn't pill. Good American is so size-inclusive and makes comfy pieces."
The One Thing She Wants to Do This Year
"I want to step into my purpose more. I did many years of advocacy work. But when my son was born and I moved to Austin, I wasn't around the people doing that work as much. This year, I've felt called to give back more and be of service. I want to get back into public speaking and talk to people going through eating disorders or body image issues. I also want to create content that's of value and that my community needs."
