The One Thing
Our series The One Thing is a Sparknotes version of the products, rituals, and moments your favorite celebrities and influencers swear by—their go-tos, must-haves, and can’t-live-withouts. So go ahead—take a brief, intimate peek into the lives of your favorites through the things (and people, and moments) they hold dear.
Though she’s happy to play into the dumb blonde archetype from time to time, Paris Hilton is a bonafide marketing genius. I can’t think of a single celebrity with a stronger personal brand—all it takes are the words “that’s hot” to summon images of her dancing on a table, ironing bacon on The Simple Life, or running errands in head-to-toe Juicy Couture. (She's also turned this persona into a billion-dollar business and pioneered the now-normalized act of being "famous for nothing").
With our collective Y2K obsession raging on, Hilton has popped up again and again on mood boards as the pinnacle of early 2000s fashion. For this reason—and her aforementioned pink persona—she was the best person for the hair brand Living Proof—or, in this case, Sliving Proof—to tap for its latest campaign, which is all about nostalgia. In the spot, a sweatsuit-clad, Blackberry-holding Hilton is visited by her future self, who gives her all the hair and life advice she could need.
In honor of the collab, Byrdie caught up with Hilton to chat hair regrets, Y2K trends, and her DJ booth essentials.
The One Beauty Look That Makes Her Feel Like Paris
"The ultimate look for me would be Barbie-inspired, including the bombshell hair, cat eyes, glitter and sparkles, and pink lip gloss."
The One Thing She Swears by for Great Hair
"I’ve been a longtime fan of Living Proof; their products always make my hair look and feel incredible. The Perfect hair Day Advanced Clean Dry Shampoo actually cleans my hair when I don’t have time to do a full wash. When I’m on the go, it's my secret weapon for fresh hair in seconds."
The One Thing That Keeps Her Blonde So Bright
"To wash, I use the Restore Shampoo and Conditioner from Living Proof–they keep my blonde silky smooth while repairing it. To keep my hair strong and healthy, I use Triple Bond Complex. It makes my hair more resistant to future damage while adding softness, smoothness, and shine."
The One Thing She Wishes She Could Tell Her 20-Year-Old Self
"Focusing more on my hair health—particularly deep conditioning in between all the hair transformations."
The One Early 2000s Trend She's Sad Is Back
