Blake Lively's Handbag-Inspired Nails Have a Hidden Detail

Her '70s look is also killer.

Blake Lively is rarely spotted without her trademark blonde waves. Since she first appeared on our screens in Gossip Girl, we really haven't seen the star in anything besides the golden color. Except, of course, the one time she tried out bright cherry red in the movie A Simple Favor or when she tried out a light brunette for her upcoming film, It Ends With Us. However, in her real life, it's usually just her signature blonde.

For New York Fashion Week, Lively brought out her classic waves in full force to sit front row at Michael Kors' Spring/Summer 2024 show. Her hair reached just below her chest, and had a two-toned toned ombré shade, with darker blonde on top and lighter blonde on the bottom. Every strand of her hair was twisted into bouncy waves that perfectly coordinated with her outfit, makeup, and nails.

To match the golden hues of her hair, she wore a shiny gold sequin catsuit that was shimmery all over, and was tight-fitting with flared-out legs for a 70's golden disco ball feel. She added a thin beige belt around her waist for decoration and added some golden rings for extra opulence.

For glam, Lively's complexion was painted to perfection with a little touch of blush on both cheeks. Her lips were a rosy nude, and her eyes had a touch of golden shimmer and a dash of dark eyeliner to really bring the whole look together.

The last step? Her Michael Kors handbag-inspired nails. Done by manicurist Elle Gerstein, each of Lively's nails were short and natural-shaped. All of the nails had the same exact color—a velvety cognac brown that Gerstein says "is reminiscent of a quintessential Kors cognac luggage leather handbag."

Gerstein says she chose the color because it "fits perfectly into this fall season's palette, effortlessly making an impressive statement and giving a modern nod to a '70s glam vibe."

However, the color wasn't where the handbag-inspired nails stopped. Each nail bed was outlined with shiny gold studs that matched the sequins on Lively's jumpsuit, as well as the golden hardware on a Michael Kors bag.

Gerstein said, "Using gold studs to outline the nail is 'the detail' Blake and I do when collaborating on her signature nail looks; they were an inspo of the hardware you find on a Kors bag."

To achieve the look, Gerstein started with The PLA Base Coat before going in with PLA's Howl You Doin' polish, sealing it all in with The PLA Non Wipe Top Coat and then adding all of the studs on her nails and curing them.
