Experience

Ashley Rubell is an editorial and celebrity hair stylist, and writer. Originally from Los Angeles and now residing in Upstate New York, Ashley has been doing hair since 2008 and continues to travel around the world styling hair for photoshoots, fashion weeks, destination weddings and select salon days. She began writing beauty articles while still assisting other hair stylists to help document and share the insider knowledge she was gaining behind the scenes at major runway shows, photoshoots and red carpet events. After moving to NY to advance her career, she became one of the first contributing writers to Jen Atkin's site, Mane Addicts. Since then her writing has appeared in Motherly, Tidal Magazine, Because I'm Addicted, Write or Die Magazine and elsewhere.

Now she's focused on finishing a collection of essays and completing her MFA in Nonfiction Writing at Bennington. Her substack, Beauty of Books, combines all her favorite things— personal essays, book recommendations, and beauty products worth trying. She's also curating a project entitled Blank to Beauty where she interviews beauty experts about the unique and indirect paths taken to reach their own versions of success within the beauty industry.

Ashley is a submissions reader for Epiphany Literary Journal and Narratively, and a mother to two young boys. Her free time is spent reading, testing new hair products and tools, traveling, and enjoying a quiet life in the woods.

Education

Ashley graduated from Santa Barbara City College with degrees in Psychology and Cosmetology. She is currently enrolled at the Bennington Writing Seminars.
